I like your SOIAF characters and their armours... they actually look very workable, and like something that could come from the real world. Now, I don't like the spikes(They're more harm than good), and wielding a shield with full plate armour is not something you'd do, but beyond that, I think this one looks very cool. The helmet is ornate, yes, but the ornamentations doesn't really get in the way of functionality.
Definitely - one of the things I find so compelling about A Song of Ice and Fire is the line it walks between fantasy and realism. There are some decisions in the source material and my art that don't make much sense from a practical point of view, but lead to a more memorable, iconic look. I tend to prefer more realistic depictions of armor - with ornamentation that looks as if it could be made, but it is always something that I can improve upon/articulate better.
Wonderful work sir. My only suggestion would be to make the rubies in his breastplate stand out a little more. In the story they were vibrant enough to attract the attention of all the soldiers after the battle to come and scavenge them after Robert smashed it with his warhammer.
