Also known as Gauvain.

Head of the House of Orkney during the height of the Round Table, fiery and loyal, though slightly less virtuous than his counterpart from the tale of the Green Knight.

Which is your favorite version - this or your other rendition? :)

I always loved the lavish detail given to Gawain from his adventure with the Green Knight. Not only was his armor and costume described in meticulous detail, but he afforded every virtue that would be stripped from him in later stories.

Gawain is my favorite Arthurian knight and I like what each author/poet/troubadour brought to the table. It's what makes the Arthurian myths so interesting - that there are so many different renditions of the tales and these characters depending on where the stories originated, where they were being told etc. etc.

(sorry for taking so long to respond by the way)

You've nothing to apologize for.

I'm with you there. Poor Gawain. He always gets such flak. You see the opposite with Lancelot; more modern media portrays him as something of a real bastard, IMO.

I love the design on his armor in this one. What was your inspiration?

This piece is actually quite old haha. I was taking a course on Arthurian literature at the time, reading everything from Chretien and Malory to Tennyson and TH White. I was struck by how different the depictions of these iconic characters were and decided to try my hand at my own interpretation. Every few years or so I go back and redraw them. There is a special place in my heart for Arthur and his knights.

That is wonderful. All of the detail in the armour and the sheild. His stance is brilliant as well. I have only one slight little problem. The way that his right arm that is holding the sword looks slightly off. Other than that, it's simply amazing.

I'm glad you like it. I know what you mean about the arm. I've been meaning to go back and redraw a lot of these older pieces and fix a lot of the mistakes... If I can ever find the time.
