Edmure by InfernalFinn Edmure by InfernalFinn
Haven't found much time to finish art lately. Trying to remedy this by drawing Game of Thrones characters for fun - hence Edmure Tully: incompetent River Lord extraordinaire. I am interested to see how HBO realizes the Tullys and the other river lords for Season 3, probably considerably different than my interpretation.

Edmure Tully. Not a bad man by any means, but too hotheaded, too eager for glory and lacking sight of the big picture. That said, he's also brave, honorable and a devoted family man. The kind of Lord that would be an excellent administrator in peacetime, but just simply not up to the task of wartime leader.

That said, he does have an eye for tactics. If I were in Robb Stark's position, (King in the North!) I would have told him everything before he made his little blunder in the fords.

Some of my favorites in the books are the more flawed characters such as Edmure and Stannis - they try to be good, or believe themselves to be good and just in their own fashion. It strengthens one of the core ideas of the series: that there is no true good or evil, only power and ambition.

I must admit to being a habitual apologist for Ser Edmure (for all the faults he CARES more than most Lords - he also managed to simultaneously defeat Ser Gregor Cleagane AND Lord Tywin's attempt to force a crossing, so he can't be entirely hopeless!).

This is why I love your depictions of ASoIaF characters and armour: You manage to strike that perfect balance between form and function, aesthetically appropriate for the character in question, but never impractical. The scales are very well done, and of course somebody whose coat-of-arms features a trout would have scales! The etched scales on the helmet are also great.

Thanks, that means a lot! It's something I'm always working on and trying to do better as I learn more about armor, costuming, practicality etc.

Great concept! I'd like to see your version of the Blackfish or Roose Bolton.

I'll second this.

This is wonderful. No set photos that reveal the river lords and guards' armour yet, unfortunately.

Would you happen to know if scale armour was ever used as a sort of substitute for mail (worn under plate) in history?

I doubt that scale mail was ever used in conjunction with plate (aside from Japanese armor, but that is a whole different ballgame). What I looked at for reference was decorative armor, many of which have animal motifs and patterns - much like Game of Thrones. I figured a fish scale like armor would be appropriate given their house sigil.
